DP World’s Exorbitant Charges: Impact on Australian Trade and Industry

DP World’s recent announcement of steep charges has created significant challenges for domestic transport operators, exporters, and importers, resulting in inflationary pressures and decreased competitiveness among local manufacturers and regional producers. The Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) are voicing concerns over this “double whammy” of both Protected Industrial Action and the impending burden of up to a 52% hike in terminal access fees. There are suspicions that this increase aims to establish a high pricing benchmark in anticipation of potential regulatory changes.
