Securing Loads In Containers

Correctly securing loads in sea containers is a key component of ensuring the safe transportation of goods. Quite often, the shipper and consignee overlook the importance of cargo restraint while packing, but this seemingly insignificant aspect can lead to devastating accidents in transit. To prevent damage to the product, or the container the shipper is required to secure the load using industry approved restraints such as straps, chains, or ropes. The restraints need to be properly tensioned to prevent any movement during transit, and the weight of the overall load needs to be evenly distributed to prevent any imbalance or rupturing of the container.

The significance of cargo restraint in a sea container cannot be overstated. It is not only crucial to prevent damage to goods, but also to ensure the safety of all individuals involved including road users. The ultimate responsibility of securing loads lies with the shipper and consignee; however, the carriers also have some responsibility in this area.

Freight Mart recently conducted a load restraint course at our premises to ensure all of our relevant staff have the necessary knowledge & skills to properly secure loads, and identify if a load is unsafe. We had 15 staff on site on a Saturday morning covering topics in relation to the various types of acceptable restraints, proper tensioning techniques, and weight distribution.

This is another example of Freight Mart investing in our teams to ensure the safe & smooth delivery of our customers products, and we appreciate the willingness of all staff involved to better understand their responsibilities as service providers.

Our Management Team And VIP Customer Visited South East Asia

A Freight Mart delegation consisting of Billy Reader (MD), Craig Rourke (GM), AND Kevin Chua (Regional Manager) embarked on our first post COVID trip visiting our regional offices in Malaysia, Thailand, and Hong Kong to meet with our China partners, and many carriers to discuss their market forecast & negotiate the best deals for our customers. We were also privileged to bring Gary O’Brien to our Malaysian office where we have staff working for his business back in Australia, and he was able to welcome his new employee Shawn to their business.

We give thanks all of our teams in Malaysia & Thailand for the wonderful reception we received, and also thanks go to our China partner Topocean for their exceptional hospitality whilst we were in Hong Kong – it was far too long between trips, we will be back very soon.
